Safety Above All means making safety the priority, even when it requires stopping work. At the Palisades Tunnel Project, leadership brought the workforce together for a safety stand-down focused on hazard awareness, planning, and accountability, reinforcing that every worker goes home safe.
Historically, the summer season has presented increased safety risks across the construction industry, making it essential that we remain vigilant and focused on safe work practices.
Across all our sites, the health, safety, and well-being of every individual working on the project remains our highest priority and is the foundation of every decision we make. Recently on our Palisades Tunnel Project, a JV project of SPC, Lane Construction and FlatironDragados, project leadership took the opportunity to refocus the workforce on hazard awareness, planning, and personal accountability, ensuring that every person entering the job site understands their role in creating and maintaining a safe work environment.
During the project-wide safety stand-down, leadership paused work to reinforce hazard recognition, pre-task planning, stop-work authority, and the importance of looking out for one another. Crews reviewed work plans, verified controls, and confirmed they had the necessary tools, training, and PPE before beginning work. Leadership also reaffirmed that no task should proceed unless it can be performed safely and reminded workers of their responsibility to stop work when unsafe conditions exist.
The stand-down also included an open discussion where employees could ask questions, raise concerns, and share feedback. A buddy system was implemented to ensure workers were not alone, reinforcing a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.
By pausing work to focus on hazard awareness, safe behaviors, and open dialogue, SPC leadership sent a clear message: no deadline or production goal is more important than the health and safety of our workforce. This commitment exemplifies the true meaning of Safety Above All.
